Abbotsford Heat (6) vs Hartford Wolf Pack (7) - OT........
To mark Hockey Day in North America. The Hartford Wolfpack played host to the Abbotsford Heat. The game featured two third place teams in their respective conferences, with the teams being separated by a mere three points in the overall standings, and as far as offense was concerned the teams didn't disappoint.
The Wolfpack jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after just 1:37 of playing time as Boone Jenner (27th) and Stefan Elliot (2nd) scored twenty-six seconds apart. Then it was Abbotsford's turn to turn up the heat as Beau Bennett (5th and 6th) would score twice, sandwiched in between were a pair of tallies by Cory Emmerton (12th, 13th) in a span of 2:42. The Wolfpack then clawed back with a trio of their own to close out the wild and wacky first twenty minutes, on a single by Brock Nelson (10th) and two more by Jenner (28th, 29th) to complete the hat-trick. The second frame was uneventful to say the least with no scoring or penalties, a period where Hartford was out-shot 12-5. With Hartford leading 5-4 after forty the Heat tied the game at 5 on Devante Smith-Pelley's goal (2nd) at 7:55. The Wolfpack would pull ahead again once more with Paul "the Jersey-boy" De Jersey goal (2nd) at 10:51, once again the Heat found a way to get the equalizer as Cody Eakin (12th) would find the back of the net with over six and a half minutes remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. Erik Gudbranson was called for a questionable hook at the 1:06 mark of the extra frame and the 'Pack wasted little time making them pay as Mathieu Brisebois (8th) fired home a point shot after only thirty-seven seconds of powerplay time.
Fredrik Andersson won for his tenth time this season, stopping 27 of 33 shots he faced while his counter-part in the Heat net, Mathieu Garon made 25 saves on 32 shots.
