New York Rangers (3) vs Carolina Hurricanes (4).....
The Rangers battled the 'Canes at the R.O.S Arena in Raleigh. With a win Carolina would tie the Rangers in points in the standings.
It was the home side that got off to the hot start, scoring twice in the first on goals by Jerome Iginla (2nd) and Bobby Ryan (1st). The Rangers came out after the intermission on a mission, they would tie the affair up before the period was five minutes old on goals by Tomas Fleischmann (7th) and Fedor Tyutin (2nd), Tyutin scoring on the powerplay at 4:50 while Jordan Staal was in the sin bin serving a slashing minor. Jordan Staal (6th) would make amends for putting his team shorthanded earlier and scored at 10:54 to put the 'Canes up by one after 40 minutes. The Rangers out-shot Carolina 21-18 through two.
It took the Rangers just thirty-two seconds into the period to tie the game up for the second time as Johan Franzen (5th) would score on the Rangers second shot of the frame as the Rangers scored their second man advantage goal with defenseman Luca Sbisa in the box for hooking. The Canes would get the eventual winner at the 11:00 minute mark from Andrew Ladd (5th) as he drilled a slapper over the blocker of Henrik Lundqvist on a feed from Luca Sbisa. Jimmy Howard shut the door the rest of the way for Carolina as he stopped a total of 27 shots for his 4th win of the season. "King" Lundqvist finished the game with 24 saves, the Rangers have now lost two straight, both by a single goal.

The Rangers will look to get back in the win column on Sunday as they host the (1-6-1) Columbus Blue Jackets who have lost their last six straight allowing a total of 37 goals in those games. Then on Tuesday they play the Oilers at MSG. The Oil most recently coming off a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Carolina will hope to make it two in a row as they will host Florida on Sunday, it won't be an easy task as the Panthers have won four straight after snapping a four game losing streak to start the season, their lastest a 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs. The Hurricanes then travel to Boston on Tuesday to take on Alex Semin, Vincent Lecavalier and the rest of the Bruins, four of Boston's five loses this season have come via a single goal.
